Dr. Jan Stoppel


Dr. Jan Filip Stoppel joined JP Rechtsanwälte as a partner in 2021. He has been practicing law for over 19 years and specializes in corporate law/M&A, real estate law, and financing.

Before joining JP Rechtsanwälte in 2021, he worked for over six years as a lawyer at the international law firm DLA Piper in Cologne, as well as for nearly seven years as in-house counsel and managing director of a prominent asset management company for open-ended and closed-end real estate funds.

Corporate Law

In the area of corporate law, we serve as a comprehensive point of contact for companies and entrepreneurs on all matters relating to the law governing corporations and commercial partnerships. We assist companies on matters such as the legal structuring of their commercial operations and the development of internal corporate structures (drafting of articles of association, shareholder agreements, bylaws, etc.), as well as changes to the shareholder structure. Furthermore, we assist our clients with all matters related to corporate registration. In addition, we support you in all legal aspects of commercial disputes.

Mergers & Acquisitions

We provide comprehensive support to our clients in the acquisition and sale of companies, equity investments, and business mergers. Our advisory services cover the entire transaction process, from planning and structuring to execution and implementation. We conduct thorough due diligence, draft and negotiate transaction paperwork, and support the process following the transaction’s closing. A key focus of our work for clients is providing comprehensive advice on all matters related to partnerships and joint ventures.

Real Estate Law

Real estate law is also one of JP Rechtsanwälte’s core areas of expertise. We serve as a comprehensive point of contact for our clients in real estate transactions (planning and execution of asset deals and share deals, due diligence reviews, letters of intent, purchase agreements, etc.), in project development, in the drafting and negotiation of commercial leases, as well as in real estate financing.

Financing Law

In the area of finance law, we advise on acquisition and real estate financing, the corresponding security agreements, as well as refinancing or extending existing financing arrangements.

Capital Markets Law

In the area of capital markets law, we advise asset management companies on the structuring and launch of open-ended and closed-end investment funds, as well as on all matters related to the regulatory requirements applicable to asset management companies and alternative investment funds. In addition, we serve as a competent and experienced partner for the operational implementation of the diverse regulatory requirements (design of organizational and operational structures, data protection, anti-money laundering, process digitization, etc.).

We advise institutional investors and family offices on investments in investment funds, co-investments, club deals, etc.
